Perhaps you’re already aware of this, but Indonesia is a collection of at least 18,000 islands and counts some 200 million inhabitants that speak around 750 different languages. It’s not surprising that traditional music there is so diverse! In the rest of the world, though, we mainly only know the Javanese and Balinese gamelans.
It’s this ensemble of instruments that will take centre stage over these 10 days. Nevertheless, the Indonesian Embassy and the MIM would like to introduce you to some of the other facets of Indonesian culture. The concert hall will be completely transformed to make you feel as if you’re on the other side of the world. You’ll find batiks, traditional objects and documentaries. Among other things, two gamelan concerts and a Wayang Kulit performance will be presented for you in this special atmosphere.
